Cruise Cars
For any fan of classic cars, the word cruise does not immediately bring to mind a vacation in the Caribbean. A cruise is a gathering of classic car enthusiasts who want to show off their rides, enjoy the fine weather, and talk cars with like-minded people. Cruise cars can be any antique, classic, or collectible car that catches eyes and draws admiring stares. From old Ford or Dodge pick-ups to Model Ts, to 1950s wagons, ‘60s muscle cars, and everything in between, cruise cars represent the whole range of American automotive history.
The idea of a cruise dates back to the times when some of your favorite classic cars were new. The youth of the 1950s started it all. Kids wanted to show off their cars, hang out together, drag race, and just enjoy warm summer nights. Cruising was a popular way to pass the time back then, and if you weren’t there, you can see what it was like in movies like American Graffiti. Today, people like to dust off their cruise cars and get out, to relive the good old days in retro style.
For many, the best part of a classic get together like this is seeing all the cruise cars. For a classic car buff, there is no better way to enjoy and appreciate cars than to watch them parade down the road and stop in to the drive in or a local parking lot. In some places, people gather together to cruise up and down a major road. Other events, called cruise-ins, involve a short drive and then parking in a lot to show off and to give each other a chance to talk and view all the other cars.
Wherever you live, you can easily find an event to show off your pride and joy and to admire the other cruise cars. Cruising events are growing in popularity, and most locations around the country have events going on during the summer. If you can’t find one, start your own and enjoy reminiscing with friends, old and new.
